Below are details about each program, along with the applications available for download. Please pay close attention to application deadlines.

Washington, D.C. Youth Tour

Lane Electric Cooperative has participated in the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour since the 1980s, sending a number of students to Washington, D.C., with other students from Oregon. Since the late 1950s, the Youth Tour has provided the opportunity for high school juniors to experience Washington, D.C. every June. Each year, students across the country compete for this unique opportunity and are selected by their local electric cooperative.

While in Washington, D. C., students learn about electric cooperatives, American history and U.S. government. In the end, they come home with a greater understanding of their role as a citizen. As part of the festivities, Youth Tour representatives participate in National Youth Day, visit with their representative and senators and explore the sights around the nation’s capital.

This application applies to High School Juniors. Applications due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019.
