Excessive Heat Watch

An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued from Friday afternoon through Monday evening for all of the forecast area except the coast. This heat episode will likely continue past Monday, through at least Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

IMPACTS: An extended period of hot weather is expected over the next several days. The heat will ramp up Friday, then be very hot Saturday and possibly through the middle of next week. Saturday could be the hottest day, but next Tuesday or next Wednesday could be nearly as hot.  This multiple-day stretch of very hot weather will pose a potential health hazard, especially to those who work outdoors, are engaged in prolonged outdoor activities, or do not have access to air conditioning in their homes.

Local transportation networks that are impacted by extreme heat should anticipate issues, possibly as early as Friday, but especially Saturday into the middle of next week. Electricity usage will also likely be very elevated during this time period.

TIMING / STRENGTH: Inland: High temperatures warm into the mid 90s, possibly upper 90s, on Friday, then be close to 100 on Saturday, 95 to 100 on Sunday, and upper 90s to around 100 Monday through Wednesday.

Coast: Coastal areas may warm into the mid 70s to mid 80s on Friday and continue into next week. The hottest day may be Saturday, where more 80s will be likely. Temperaturess might drop a couple of degrees Sunday but then warm back up next week.
