No stranger to service, Knudsen Obermeyer brings 30 years of volunteering and board experience to the position. She served 12 years on the Oakridge School Board and held the position of Board Chair, coordinated and organized Oakridge’s Mini-Olympics, Outdoor School Program for students, and the Senior Citizen’s Christmas Basket effort in Oakridge. During her time with the Forest Service, Knudsen Obermeyer also served as Treasurer for the Forest Service Union.

Kathy started the McKenzie Elementary Outdoor School in 1980. She was appointed by Governors Goldschmidt and Atiyeh to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (ODFW) Salmon Trout Enhancement Board and served as Education Chair both terms. Kathy served on Eugene Water and Electric Board’s (EWEB) Citizen Review Committee for the re-licensing of the Leaburg and Walterville Hydro Projects representing rate-payers for 7+ years. She presented workshops for teachers on water and energy conservation for EWEB’s Southern Willamette Energy Action Team. She was also elected to the McKenzie School District’s Board of Directors in 1998.

Appointed to the Lane County Budget Committee in both the 2003 to 2004 and 2004 to 2005 school years, Kathy co-founded the McKenzie Education Foundation and is a current member. She completed the Ford Family Foundation Leadership and Community Ambassador training programs for the McKenzie Area (McKenzie Area Renewal Committee, MARC 1). Kathy co-created “Canopy Connections” with the University of Oregon Environmental Learning Program and the Pacific Tree Climbing Institute to take middle school students 80 feet into the old-growth canopy.

I’ve completed all of the required education and have been certified as a Credentialed Cooperative Director through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). In addition, my continuing education, attendance at conferences, and participation on a variety of industry-related committees have helped prepare me for the challenges facing our co-op.
