What is this latest rage called social media? Why are people so excited about it? Likely, it’s having information at your fingertips, being connected 24/7, and having the ability to communicate worldwide, fast and easy!
For example, how many times have you seen a child using a cell phone or a computer? How many times have you seen laptop computers being used in a lobby, a coffee shop, on a train or an airplane? Likely, you’ve seen one of these newfangled contraptions pretty recently - maybe even today!
Let’s face it, we all want to know what is going on and we want to know now. Whether good or bad, we have the technology that enables us to do this and more. Enter the social media phenomenon.
Social media can be defined as “a type of online media that expedites conversation as opposed to traditional media, which delivers content but doesn’t allow readers/viewers/listeners to participate in the creation or development of the content.”
In April, Lane Electric joined the club by rolling out social media on www.laneelectric.com. You are able to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and our YouTube channel, LEC-TV. Experts say that social media is the future of communication and is relevant for business, providing a countless array of internet based tools and platforms that can increase and enhance the sharing of information and communication. Fact is, these new forms of communication make the transfer of text, photos, audio, video, and other information increasingly fluid among internet users.
Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others have created online communities for people to connect next locally, nationally, and around the world.
The result is an enormous amount of information that can be easily shared, searched, promoted, disputed, and created instantly. Good or bad? You can be the judge.
What we know is that these tools make online sharing and searching easier in some fashion or another, regardless of their niche.
